The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has missed the deadline to furnish the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) with a load-shedding timetable, despite being given an ultimatum due to the persistent power outages.
The PURC had directed the ECG to provide a detailed report covering outage incidents from January 1, 2024, until the present date.
This report was expected to include information on the extent of load curtailed, energy not served, and the number of affected customers.
Despite the seven-day deadline issued by the PURC, the ECG has failed to fully comply with the regulatory body's request, raising concerns about the company's responsiveness to the ongoing power crisis.
The PURC has warned that failure to address these issues could lead to sanctions against the ECG.
On today's episode of Newsfile, host Samson Lardy Anyenini and his panel delved into the implications of the ECG's non-compliance and explore potential solutions to the power crisis.
Additionally, the show looked at the deadlock between the President and the Speaker of Parliament regarding the passage of the anti-gay bill, officially known as the Sexual Human Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill.
Guests also discussed the ongoing strike by three teacher unions and the legal action taken by the National Labour Commission to stop the strike. Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum will join the discussion.
Finally, the programme examined the government's recently launched "Smart Schools Project," which aims to provide Smart Tablets to 1.3 million Senior High School (SHS) students nationwide.
