Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams says the decision to play for Ghana has left him in the best moment of his career and has no regrets over it.
The 29-year-old, who was born in Bilbao to Ghanaian parents, represented Spain at the Under-21 level and made one senior squad appearance in a friendly against Bosnia in 2016.
Inaki made the decision to represent the Black Stars in August 2022 before making his debut for the national team a month later.
Since switching to Ghana, the forward has made 17 appearances for the country, scoring just once in that period.
His performances have not been too impressive which has led to criticism from some Ghanaians but Inaki says he has no regrets over the decision.
"I would never have imagined this. I had to make a decision and I don’t regret being able to represent the country of my parents and my family, to go back to my origins, to be able to travel more and see my loved ones in Ghana," he told Club del Deportista.
"It’s true that things didn’t work out as we’d all hoped, but it’s true that on a sporting and personal level, it helped me a lot. In fact, I think I’m in one of my best moments thanks to this decision."
Despite his struggles with Ghana, Inaki continues to join a good run in front of goal for Bilbao scoring 11 times in 31 appearances across all competitions. He also has five assists to his name playing on the wings.
