The Western Regional House of Chiefs has commended Vice President Bawumia for his respect for traditional authorities.
As an integral part of his regional campaign tour, Dr. Bawumia meets traditional authorities among other stakeholders.
On Thursday, he met the Western Regional House of Chiefs in Takoradi, to share his vision with them, and to also listen to their concerns as he intensifies his campaign towards the presidential elections in December.
During the meeting, the Acting President of the Western Regional House Chiefs, in a statement on behalf of the House, praised Dr. Bawumia's humility and respect for traditional authority.
"Your humility and respect for traditional authorities in the country is overwhelming,” said the Acting President.
"We are also reciprocating this gesture to you, hence our presence here to receive you," he added.
Addressing the traditional rulers to share his vision for the country, Dr. Bawumia said if he wins the 2024 elections, his government will amend the Chieftaincy Act to restore some powers to traditional leaders.
Dr. Bawumia explained that traditional rulers appear to be off the governance system and restoring some powers back to them, especially to deal with local judicial matters, will not only restore more respect to the chieftaincy institution, it will also free up the piling of local disputes at the law courts.
Dr. Bawumia said his government would establish a fund for the development of the chieftaincy institution.
