Ghanaian rapper Maradona Yeboah Agyei known in showbiz as Guru, has told Joy FM in a recent interview about the inspiration behind his intention to contest for President of the University of Ghana's Students Representative Council.
Speaking to Kwame Dadzie on Showbiz A-Z, Guru mentioned that he was goaded by some pressing needs of the students to embark on this cause.
The ‘Lapaz Toyota’ hit maker said he intends to fix accommodation problems in the school and settle some inter-hall rifts.
According to him, his main focus is to make sure the name and brand of the premier university is protected.
He said as someone who is into real estate, he intends to devise ways of making students get comfortable place to live and have sound minds to study.
“When I was in Australia I was able to lobby for new universities, get them them investors to invest in. They are ready to build a whole hostel for some universities around Kumasi Barekese.
Sometimes I give our my room to some colleagues because they have nowhere to sleep. By the way me of the semester I end up spending so much because of accommodation crisis and the things we need to pay critical attention to," he said.
Although he underscored the attempt made by administration to solve the issue, he said his involvement will be of greater help.
Guru also indicated that when voted as the President of the University of Ghana's Students Representative Council, he will serve as a peace advocate to feuding halls.
Asked if he had ambitions for mainstream politics, he answered in the negative and noted he rather wanted to work with the United Nations.
"I want to work with the UN because it is an international body that works for humanity and I am ready to serve. All that we do is to inspire, motivate and give when it matters the most, so me, I want to work with the UN," he noted.
The Level 300 student of Political Science and Information Studies disclosed his current GPA is 3.88.
Apart from 'Lapaz Toyota', Guru is known for hit songs such as 'Pastor', 'Abena', Obonsam Ani', 'Alkayida', 'Mpaebo', 'Boys Abre', 'Poley Swag', 'Samba', among others.
