The ongoing strike by Ghanaian jurors over unpaid allowances has forced an Accra High Court, to once again adjourn, the trial of two individuals accused of murdering an 11-year-old at Kasoa Millennium City.
It's been over three years since police investigators exhumed Abdallah's body at Millennium City, a suburb of Kasoa in the Central Region.
For the past three years, family members of the deceased have been pursuing justice for their kin. However, each time they get closer to finding closure, court processes and other developments throw a spanner in their works.
When the two accused persons appeared in court on Monday, June 24, the court couldn't make any meaningful progress on the case due to the absence of the jury.
The jurors have been on strike since May 6 over unpaid allowances by the state and have threatened not to return to work until they are paid about eleven months of arrears.
As a result, the presiding judge, Justice Lydia Marfo, adjourned the case to July 8 for closing addresses by the parties.
Apart from the trial of the two suspects for the murder of the 11-year-old, the absence of the jury is also frustrating the timely delivery of justice in other high-profile cases, including the JB Danquah murder trial and the trial of Gregory Afoko, who is standing trial for the murder of former Upper East Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party, Adams Mahama.
