The Mahama Campaign Team has criticised Asaase Radio and Daily Guide for allegedly publishing false information about John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), claiming he sought assistance from the Russian government for the upcoming December elections.
This response comes after Asaase Radio published an article on Thursday, July 11, suggesting that Mahama had approached Russian authorities for support, supposedly under the pretense of launching a Russian version of his autobiography, ‘My First Coup D’etat’.
Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Mahama's spokesperson, issued a statement on Friday, July 12, 2024, vehemently denying these claims and labeling the publication as an example of ‘shadowy and unethical journalism’ intended to tarnish Mahama's reputation.
Mr Mogtari clarified that Mahama's visit to Russia was solely to launch the Russian language translation of his memoir, ‘My First Coup D’etat and Other Stories from the Lost Decades of Africa’, at the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow.

The Campaign Team emphasised that the claims made by Asaase Radio are baseless and urged Ghanaians to dismiss these allegations, affirming that no such engagement with Russian authorities took place during Mahama's visit.
Furthermore, they reiterated their commitment to ethical campaigning and transparency, and called on media outlets to adhere to journalistic integrity.
