The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa has assured the public that an investigation is still ongoing to reveal how the governing New Patriotic Party's Communications Director, Richard Ahiagbah was able to vote in the 2020 elections although his name was not in the voter's register.
The Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah confirmed claims that he voted in the 2020 general elections even though his name was not in the register.
This comes after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) accused Mr Ahiagbah of committing a crime of double registration when he attempted to register at a registration centre in Ketu South in the Volta Region.
According to him, he went to the polling station to cast his vote but was informed by the EC officials that his name was not in the register.
Despite this, an EC official recorded his identification number and other necessary details at the bottom of the register, allowing him to cast his vote.

Briefing Parliament ahead of the 2024 election, Mrs Mensa stated that what happened is a major cause of concern and calls for awareness.
“He was not on the register but he was able to vote in 2020. It is something that we are looking into and we can assure you that in due course, we will come up with our findings and let you know.”
She also stated that such incidents should not recur at any polling station in the upcoming general elections.
“I can assure you that before the elections, we will give you a little update on how that happened,” she said.
