Spokesperson for the John Mahama campaign team, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has said that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is a social democratic party, and that health is a significant part of the party's manifesto.
She emphasised that the party's stance on health has traditionally been non-partisan, and it was only when the New Patriotic Party politicised health issues that it became a major political topic.
Mrs Mogtari noted that nurses had never previously protested against any government.
The Special Aide also mentioned that under the NDC, education and health receive the largest portions of the national budget.
Speaking on the JoyNews AM show, Mrs. Mogtari said, "Look, I personally believe that we need to reduce bureaucracy, it does not help. Apart from that, when Mr. Mahama said that they were going to take off these allowances to ensure that health facilities train more, what happened? They took it from a very partisan perspective”.
Mrs Mogtari stated that if the government creates decent jobs in the country, people will not need small allowances.
She mentioned meeting a man who works at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, managing the lifts during the evening.
The special aide said that if a 24-hour economy was established, individuals would not need allowances like 400 cedis for research or nursing; instead, they would receive training for better-paying jobs and higher incomes.
Mrs. Mogtari noted that in every profession, experts perform better.
“Even those who leave, as we call it, ‘japa’ to other countries, those who are expected to do very well. Look, today one of the biggest gaps we have is in facilities for the aging population.“
