The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has pledged to investigate and prosecute those involved in the alleged "Agyapadie" document, which claims to expose a scheme by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to seize state assets.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has dismissed the document as a fabrication intended to damage his political career.
During "The Moment of Truth" press conference on Wednesday, August 7, Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC's National Communications Officer, emphasised that any illegal and sole-sourced contracts will also be scrutinized.
He asserted that the next NDC government will work to recover stolen funds and ensure that those found guilty are held accountable under the law.
Sammy Gyamfi assured Ghanaians that former President John Mahama will not allow individuals responsible for the current state of the country to evade justice.
The NDC spokesperson stressed that such individuals will be made to answer for their actions.
“Fellow countrymen and women, you can be rest assured, that under the next NDC/Mahama government these sleazy, illegal and inflated sole-sourced contracts will be investigated and the “Agyapadie” thieves prosecuted."
"More importantly, stolen funds will be retrieved for the state for development and all those found culpable shall be dealt with in accordance with law. This same level of accountability will be extended to members of a future NDC government, no matter whose ox is gored," he said.
Meanwhile, former President John Mahama has joined the public discussion on the document circulating on social media alleging a scheme by some individuals within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), especially from the Akyem area in the Eastern Region, to annexe state assets for some individuals.
Speaking in Bawku on Saturday, Aug 3, 2024, as part of his campaign tour of the Upper East, Mr Mahama dismissed the formal response by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Okyenhene that the “Agyapadie” document was a fabrication.
Mr Mahama questioned that if the document [Agyapadie] was fabricated, how about its implementation and suggested that, its "implementation is evidence of its authenticity."
