The Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Samuel Awuku, has reaffirmed the Authority's commitment to eradicating illegal lotto operations across the country.
Speaking at an Editors' Forum held in Accra, Mr Awuku assured the public that the NLA is intensifying efforts to regulate unlicensed operators and ensure that all lotto activities are conducted within the framework of the law.
Mr Awuku emphasized that the NLA will employ all means necessary to bring illegal operators under control and urged those involved to regularize their activities or face the full force of the law. “We are taking decisive action to clamp down on illegal lotto operators. The NLA is committed to ensuring that everyone in the industry operates legally and contributes to the development of the sector,” he stated.
Reflecting on recent praise for his work, Mr Awuku highlighted the collective efforts of the NLA team in rebuilding the Authority’s brand over the past three years. He was honoured as the CEO of the Year at both the 7th and 8th CEO Summit and Excellence Awards and also received the CEO of the Lottery Award in 2023.
“These awards are not just a personal achievement but a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire NLA team. We have made significant strides in repositioning the NLA as a trustworthy and efficient authority, and we will continue to uphold these standards,” Mr Awuku added.
The Editors' Forum, which brought together media professionals and stakeholders, provided a platform for the NLA to share its successes and outline its plans. The forum also allowed for discussions on the challenges facing the lottery industry and the steps the NLA is taking to address them.
The NLA’s crackdown on illegal lotto operators is part of its broader strategy to enhance the integrity and sustainability of the lottery sector in Ghana. Mr Awuku called on the public to support the NLA’s efforts by reporting any illegal activities and helping to ensure that the industry thrives under fair and regulated conditions.
