The National Peace Council has expressed the hope that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will eventually sign the peace accord for this year’s election.
In the view of the council, the party has not categorically refused to sign the document although it has raised valid concerns that would be looked at.
The party has laid out specific conditions that they insist must be addressed before they would consider participating in the exercise.
NDC National Chairman, Asiedu Nketia, has expressed doubts about the effectiveness of past peace agreements, arguing that they have failed to achieve their intended outcomes.
But speaking to journalists in Accra, the Chairman of the National Peace Council, Dr Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, expressed confidence that the NDC will eventually participate in the peace process.
“The NDC has not categorically refused to sign. They have raised some concerns, and we will meet with them to discuss these issues and work towards resolving them.
“I don’t think this is something we need to be overly concerned about. Our doors are always open. We engage with the parties, we listen to them, and we seek solutions to address their grievances.
“Those within our capacity, we will address. Some matters may be beyond our control, but we remain hopeful that they will sign the pact,” he said.
