President Akufo-Addo has dismissed claims that vote rigging is the only way by which the New Patriotic Party (NPP) could retain power in the upcoming December polls.
According to him, the electoral system is robust and it's impossible to rig elections. He stated that vote rigging is not in the party's DNA.
Speaking at the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) conference in Kumasi on September 9, the President said “The constant, persistent champion in Ghana's history of the values of multi-party democracy, rigging is not part of the NPP’s DNA,"
His comments were in response to claims that the NPP can only retain power if elections are rigged.
According to President Akufo-Addo, “It is becoming evident that these voices are already preparing excuses for the increasingly likely outcome of the impending elections.”
He asserted that the "NPP's path to victory is through a robust defence of its exceptional, proven track record in office, and the compelling vision of continuing modernisation of Ghana's future being espoused by the party's excellent presidential candidate, the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and his dynamic running mate, the Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, known to all and sundry here in Kumasi as Napo."
The President further urged security agencies to maintain law and order during the election period, ensuring they act within legal boundaries while preventing violence and vigilantism.
