NDC Manifesto Committee member, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, has slammed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the heightened galamsey menace in Ghana.
He says this is enough reason for Ghanaians to vote the NPP government out of power in the upcoming general elections.
“The NPP has been in government for eight years and has failed to stop galamsey. This is enough reason for Ghanaians to vote for the NDC,” said Elvis.
In an exclusive interview with Nhyira FM's Nana Jantuah on Kuroyimunsem, the former Youth and Sports Minister criticized Nana Akufo-Addo for failing to fulfill his promise of putting his presidency on the line to stop illegal mining.
"If a president says, I will put my presidency on the line to stop illegal mining, then he has recognized the seriousness of the issue of galamsey and should be ready to resign his position as president if he is unable to stop galamsey,” he stated.
Elvis Afriyie Ankrah acknowledged that galamsey existed during the previous NDC administration but claimed that the current spate is deliberate, persistent and organized by powerful government officials.
“Galamsey issue started a long time ago but it has become worse because there are big people behind it,” he said.
Elvis has vowed that if NDC is voted back into power, there would be no compromise in allowing galamsey to destroy water bodies and forest reserves.
