Independent presidential candidate, George Twum-Barimah-Adu, has called for a new approach to leadership in Ghana, explaining the need for a candidate free from political party affiliations.
According to him, the nation requires a leader whose primary focus is the welfare and development of its people and not the party.
Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show, he said, ”It is time we look for a candidate who doesn’t have any ties to any political party but rather whose ties are to the people of Ghana and Ghanaians as a whole."
"I have voted NPP and NDC but I am not a card-carrying member of either of them,” he explained on September 24.
“What Ghana now needs is someone who truly shall be head of state for Ghana and for Ghanaians. This is why Ghana needs to look for a candidate who is not backed by a political party.”
Mr Twum-Barimah-Adu urged Ghanaians to vote based on manifestos and not on political party affiliation despite the fact that these parties often failed to fulfill them.
“Unfortunately, the parties do not follow their manifestoes. They just write them nicely and beautiful and when they get to power, they do what a political party will do,” he said.
The presidential aspirant also explained that Chapter 6 of Ghana’s Constitution which is the principles of state policy would be a comprehensive blueprint for national development under his administration.
According to him, this chapter outlines everything necessary for the progress of the country and its citizens.
“It is the generic blueprint for the country. I do not see why parties do manifestos. Everything is in there and if the parties follow it, we will not be in the problem we are in now. Everything concerning the development of Ghana and the Ghanaian is in that section of the constitution.”
“When I read it, I said, this is what I am going to do for Ghana. I am going to implement fully and totally what chapter 6 of the constitution says,” he added.
