Thousands of Muslims in and around Walewale joined the Vice President and presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for Jummah prayers and the commissioning of a new mosque.
It was a special and historic day for the people as the magnificent mosque he facilitated to put up was opened to the public. And for the first time, Jummah prayers were said off the old Walewale Central mosque that served the people for decades.
Dr. Bawumia, together with Imams and traditional rulers, cut the sod for the commissioning, before taking the historic steps to inspect the mosque ahead of the Friday congregational prayers.

Within minutes, the mosque was filled to capacity as both men and women occupied their respective sections of the mosque.
The number of ecstatic worshippers who stormed the commissioning ceremony was so huge that many could not have access inside the mosque and had to observe the Jummah prayers outside.
Special prayers were said for Dr. Bawumia, for his benevolence and support to the community, with many praying for Allah to grant him victory in next month's presidential election.
The new mosque is fitted with modern facilities for both men and women sections, an ablution area as well as offices for the Imam.

With a huge Muslim population in and around Walewale, the magnificent mosque, the construction of which started a few years ago, has been expanded to provide enough space for the town's growing population.
Vice President Bawumia has over the years extended support to the Zongo and Muslim community in various forms, including personally funding the construction and renovation of mosques and schools across the country.
Dr. Bawumia has also notably extended strong support in various forms, including personal contributions towards the building and renovation of chapels and schools and other programmes of the Christian community.
