The Joint Transition Team, comprising representatives from the outgoing administration of President Akufo-Addo and the incoming government of President-elect John Dramani Mahama, has been officially inaugurated.
The ceremony, held at the Accra International Conference Centre, marked the commencement of efforts to ensure a smooth and collaborative transfer of power.
Outgoing President Akufo-Addo, in his address, reiterated the importance of adhering to the Transition Act to uphold Ghana's democratic reputation.
“It is imperative that we continue to consolidate this hard-earned reputation by adhering strictly to the provisions of the Transition Act. We send a powerful message to the world that democracy thrives in Ghana, even in challenging times,” President Akufo-Addo remarked.
He urged members of both the outgoing and incoming teams to prioritize transparency, collaboration, and mutual respect as they undertake their duties.

“As we embark on this transitional process, I urge all members of the team, both from the outgoing administration and the incoming, to approach this task with a spirit of collaboration, transparency, and mutual respect,” he stated.
The Joint Transition Team will oversee the transfer of government operations, ensuring that critical national projects and policies remain uninterrupted during the change in administration.
President-elect John Mahama is cognisant of this.
Speaking at the event, Mr Mahama expressed gratitude to Nana Akufo-Addo for the briefing on national security and economic issues.
He further highlighted the importance of the Presidential Transition Act and the need for cooperation in the process.
The inauguration reaffirmed Ghana's status as a beacon of democracy in Africa, showcasing its ability to handle transitions with efficiency and order.
John Mahama's appointed members of the Joint Transition Team are as follows:

- Dr. Callistus Mahama– Member/Secretary to the Transition Team
- Dr. Valerie Sawyer - Member
- Prof. Kwamena Ahwoi - Member
- Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson - Member
- Hon. Mahama Ayariga - Member
- Hon. Goosie Tanoh - Member
- Dr. Edward Omane Boamah – Member
Additionally, the President-elect has nominated Edward Doe Adjaho as a member of the transitional Advisory Council.
President Akufo's members of the Transition Team are as follows:
- Head of the Presidential Staff appointed under the Presidential Office Act, 1993 (Act 463) [Chief of Staff] - Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare
- The Attorney-General - Godfred Yeboah Dame
- Minister responsible for Presidential Affairs - Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu
- Minister responsible for Finance - Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam
- Minister responsible for the Interior - Hon. Henry Quartey
- Minister responsible for Defence - Hon. Dominic Nitiwul
- Minister responsible for Foreign Affairs - Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey
- Minister responsible for Local Government - Hon. Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah
- Minister responsible for National Security - Hon. Albert Kan Dapaah
Additionally, in line with Section 1 (2) of the Act, the Team shall include the following individuals:
- The Head of Civil Service - Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh
- The Head of the Local Government Service - Dr. Nana Ato Arthur
- The Secretary to the Cabinet - Ambassador Mercy Debrah-Karikari
- The National Security Coordinator - Mr. Edward Asomani
