Bernard Mornah of the People’s National Convention (PNC) in the 2024 general election, has congratulated President-elect John Mahama, the President-elect of the Republic of Ghana, on his victory in the just-ended general election.

Mrs Jean Mensah, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) and Returning Officer of the presidential election declared Mr Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as Ghana’s President-elect.

Mr Mahama garnered 6,328,397 representing 56.55 per cent of the valid votes cast in 267 out of the 276 Constituencies while Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, had 4,657,304 votes representing 41.61 per cent.

Mr Mornah, while congratulating Mr Mahama, reminded the President-elect of his “mouth-watering” campaign promises, which gave him the leverage to win the election.

He mentioned some including embarking on an operation to recover all loots, abolishing some inimical taxes such as betting tax and E-levy and giving Ghanaians good governance.

Mr Mornah said these when he addressed the media in Sankana in the Nadowli-Kaleo District in reaction to the overwhelming victory of Mr Mahama in the 2024 general election.

“As we congratulate John Dramani Mahama on his victory, we need to remind him that the people of Ghana did not just vote for him because it was a matter of course.

We want to remind them that it’s these promises the people of Ghana took seriously and we expect that they will manifest them as they are in government”, he stated.

Mr Mornah also commended Vice President Dr Bawumia for his early concession of victory to Mr Mahama, which had calmed tension and reduced the tendency of people to cause election-violence.

“His quick acceptance and concession of defeat to John Dramani Mahama calmed tensions and probably took the nation away from the brink of people’s anger”, he said, adding that “Democracy in Ghana has matured”.

Mr Mornah also commended the PNC fraternity for its unwavering support offered to the NDC and its presidential candidate which had translated to the victory that Mr Mahama had achieved following the EC’s disqualification of the PNC from contesting the presidential elections.

The political activist expressed hope that Mr Mahama would “deliver” Ghanaians from the current economic hardship.
