Edem Agbana, the Member of Parliament-elect for Ketu North, has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to accept the results of the 2024 elections as a clear verdict on the performance of the Akufo-Addo government.
Speaking during an interview on Citi FM on Friday, Agbana emphasized that the election outcome reflected widespread dissatisfaction with the governance provided by the NPP, which ultimately led to their defeat.
According to Agbana, the election results show that the overwhelming majority of Ghanaians were unimpressed by the current administration’s performance.
"The NPP must accept that the election was a verdict on the performance of the Akufo-Addo government. The verdict is that the majority of Ghanaians are not impressed with the kind of governance that the NPP provided," he stated.
He also noted that the desire for change in leadership was a key factor in the election, pointing to the fact that even constituencies traditionally regarded as NPP strongholds had been won by the opposition.
Mr Agbana further highlighted that the results vindicated President Mahama’s focus on the economy during his campaign.
"The verdict is that President Mahama has been vindicated when he kept saying on the campaign platforms that it is about the economy," Mr Agbana said.
He explained that the economic concerns voiced by Ghanaians were at the heart of the election, with many citizens seeking improvements in their living conditions.
Reflecting on his campaign experiences, Mr Agbana shared that during their visits to communities across the country, many Ghanaians expressed frustration with the surge in food prices and the unfavourable exchange rate.
"The people wanted improvements in their living conditions. People were complaining about the surge in food prices, people were complaining about the exchange rate," he added. These concerns, Mr Agbana argued, played a significant role in the electoral outcome.
