General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Kwetey, has called on party members to prioritise integrity as they prepare to assume power on January 7, 2025.
According to him, there would be no point in criticizing the current administration for corruption if the incoming NDC leadership takes over only to perpetrate the same.
Speaking in an interview on JoyNews a week after John Mahama was declared president-elect, Mr. Kwetey stressed the need for the party to distinguish itself from the outgoing administration by rejecting any tendencies of corruption.
"Why would you attack them for being corrupt and then want to do the same thing? For me, I never understand that," he explained on Upfront on December 18.
"This victory is about Ghana, and it’s not going to be business as usual. The future of the country is far more important than making any individual happy."
Mr. Kwetey also urged party members to remain humble and remember that the election victory represents the aspirations of all Ghanaians, not just the NDC.
"We applaud every single thing that every member of the party has done, but we must appreciate that this victory transcends the NDC. It is a mandate to lead Ghana with accountability and transparency," he stated.
His comments come as the NDC prepares to transition into governance, with calls for unity and ethical leadership resonating within the party.
The NDC has already introduced a preparatory committee for what it describes as Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL).
