The Ada Community Chiefs Association has called on President Akufo-Addo and President-elect, John Mahama, to take immediate action to address rising tensions over the Songor Lagoon salt mining concession.
The appeal comes in the wake of a violent clash on December 23, 2024, in Bonikofe, Ada East District, which left two men critically injured.
Speaking at a press conference, the Chiefs condemned the violence, describing it as a "politically motivated" effort to tarnish the reputation of Electrochem Ghana Limited, the company managing the concession.
They expressed concerns that the incident could threaten the continuity of the company’s lease agreement under the incoming administration.
Nene Dameseo III, spokesperson for the association, accused individuals within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of orchestrating the unrest.
He alleged that agitators had entered the lagoon to destroy infrastructure restored by Electrochem Ghana, including evaporators, to provoke security forces and disrupt the peace.
“Our investigations reveal this was a meticulously planned and calculated attempt to disrupt the peace of our beloved Ada. It is driven solely by selfish political interests,” Nene Dameseo III stated.
The Chiefs urged both the current government and the incoming Mahama-led administration to take decisive action against those responsible for the unrest, warning that their actions pose a direct threat to Ada's peace and development.
“We call upon the current, government, the incoming administration led by John Mahama to take decisive action against these perpetrators.
"Their action is a direct threat to the peace and development of Ada and must not go unpunished,” he added.
