Presidential Candidate of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Nana Akosua Frimpomaa Kumankuma has claimed to be the founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement—a group historically linked to former President Jerry John Rawlings and led by Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.
The 31st December Movement, established in the aftermath of the 1981 coup, has been recognised for its pivotal role in grassroots development, women’s empowerment, and promoting national self-reliance.
Over the years, it has evolved into a powerful force addressing socio-economic inequalities across Ghana.
Mrs Kumankuma’s assertion challenges the widely accepted narrative surrounding the origins of the movement, introducing a fresh perspective on its history.
Speaking on the matter, she stated, "I started the 31st December Women’s Movement; my money funded the first T-shirt of the 31st December Movement."
Her comments are set to spark debates about the movement’s legacy and the roles of key figures in its establishment.
Nana Akosua Frimpomaa Kumankuma shared this perspective during a yet-to-be-aired conversation with Emefa Akosua Adeti on Personality Profile.
