The Oti Regional Minister nominee, John Kwadwo Gyapong, has pledged to engage stakeholders to establish processing factories in the region if approved by Parliament.
Speaking during his vetting on the development potential of the Oti Region, Mr Gyapong highlighted the region’s rich agricultural resources and vast arable land, emphasising the need for local industries to process these raw materials.
"Oti region has an outstanding land mass, and we produce cocoa, ginger, cassava, and yam. Unfortunately, we don’t have any industry to process these produce in the region," he stated on Thursday, January 23.
He added, "When I get the nod, I am going to consult, try to talk to stakeholders who will come to establish processing factories in cocoa, ginger, cassava and yam production in the region."
He believes this initiative will significantly boost the region's economy and create employment opportunities for the youth.
