Gospel artiste and pastor at the ICGC Christ Temple, Ps Edwin Dadson, has urged gospel musicians not to be too focused on the popularity of their songs at the expense of the impact they make.
In an interview on Daybreak Hitz with Doreen Avio, Ps. Dadson stated that although winning awards is important, the primary objective is to serve God and win souls.
"If we keep following the popularity of music, we will lose the essence and quality. Our landscape of music bothers me. I don't mind who wins an award, but I want to be proud to say that this person can really sing and challenges me to sing," he said.
He made this comment when he was asked about the introduction of the Best Urban/Contemporary Gospel Song category in the 2025 Telecel Ghana Gospel Music Awards (TGMA).
While expressing his enthusiasm about the new category, he cautioned that it should encourage the artistes to push towards the ultimate goal of gospel music and not just revel in the prestige that comes with the award.
"It's up to them to really rise up to the task, and again, it shouldn't be about awards, it should be about posterity and legacy. So, if I get an award, what's next?" he asked.
Already, some gospel musicians including Kingzkid, Scott Evans and KobbySalm have lauded the organisers of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards for creating the category.
