Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, the Provost of the College of Education Studies at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), has been appointed the new Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The announcement was made via a Facebook post by the GES on Monday, 27 January.

Professor Davis brings a wealth of academic and professional experience to the role. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mathematics Education from Monash University in Australia.
His distinguished academic career also includes serving as a Carnegie African Diaspora Fellow, a prestigious award recognising scholars who contribute significantly to education and research in Africa.
Additionally, he is an active member of the Ghana Mathematics Association, an organisation committed to promoting excellence in mathematics education across the country.
Beyond his academic achievements, Professor Davis has held several leadership positions in education research. He was the Vice President of the Ghana Education Research Association (GERA-Ghana), a professional body focused on improving educational policies, practices, and outcomes through research and evidence-based approaches.
As the new Director-General, Professor Davis is expected to build on the work of his predecessor while introducing his vision and strategies to further enhance the educational landscape in Ghana.
Meanwhile, the outgoing Director, Dr Eric Nkansah thanked former president, Akufo-Addo for the opportunity and announced that he is available to help the GES in any capacity.
"Though I leave my position today, my commitment to education remains unwavering. I look forward to contributing to Ghana’s educational advancement in other capacities" he posted on his Facebook page.
He emphasised "I wish the new DG well in his new role. Let's all support him to succeed."
