The United States of America (USA) Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deported 258 Ghanaian nationals between 2021 and 2024.
These deportations resulted from various offences, including criminal convictions and immigration violations. This is according to the agency's Enforcement and Removal Operations statistics.
The individuals were removed from cities and states such as Newark (25), New Orleans (23), Philadelphia (22), Atlanta (21), San Diego (11), and Washington, D.C. (10).
The annual breakdown of deportations shows that 56 Ghanaians were removed in 2021, 46 in 2022, 62 in 2023, and 94 in 2024.
In comparison, 417 Nigerian nationals were deported over the same period, while 206,943 Mexicans were removed.
Meanwhile, information on 2025 deportations has yet to be published by ICE.
ICE's deportation strategy has focused on individuals with criminal backgrounds, aiming to "keep potentially dangerous criminal aliens out of our communities," as stated by the agency.
This approach has been particularly prominent during President Donald Trump’s administration, which saw large-scale immigration enforcement operations targeting those with criminal records.
Just last Sunday, ICE reported 956 arrests in a single-day operation, marking the largest such operation during the Trump administration.
