The Japan Karate Association (JKA) of Ghana, in collaboration with the Ghana Karate-Do Federation, organized a two-day training program for karatekas and instructors.
The training, known as JKA-Ghana Gasshuku, took place at the Dubois Centre in Accra from Saturday, February 15, to Sunday, February 16, 2025.
The event aimed to bring together karate practitioners from across Africa and beyond for two days of intensive training, knowledge sharing, and camaraderie.

The camp focused on refining skills, deepening understanding, and inspiring the growth of martial arts in Ghana as the new season approaches.
The Karate Technical Director for Sub-Saharan Africa, Daniel Gombe Sensei, led the training for over a hundred participants.
“So my idea is that they continue to focus on generating power so that they can compete at a world-class level,” Sensei told Joy Sports.
“Most of the world championships that we have, the Shoto Cup happens every three years in Japan, and then after the three years, it goes out of Japan, and then back to Japan, and then out of Japan.
“My idea is to bring that Shoto Cup to Africa.”

Dickson Acolatse, an organizer of the event, stated that the training aimed to empower participants to transfer their knowledge to members of their respective clubs.
“Basically, the people you see here, most of them, especially the seniors or the black belts, are instructors in their various clubs,” Acolatse said.
“So this would augment their way of teaching their juniors in their various clubs nationwide.”
Each participant was awarded a certificate of participation.
