President John Mahama has reaffirmed that he successfully resolved Ghana’s electricity crisis, popularly known as "dumsor," before leaving office in 2017.
Speaking during his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) in his second term on Thursday, 27th February, he emphasised that his administration took decisive measures to end the persistent power outages that had plagued the country for years.
“When I was elected in 2012, I promised to solve the legacy problem of dumsor, and I fixed dumsor,” President Mahama asserted.
He highlighted that by January 2016, his government had implemented effective policies and infrastructural improvements to stabilise the energy sector, ensuring uninterrupted power supply.
“From January 2016 till I handed over power in 2017, there was no power rationing. I want to place on record that I fixed dumsor,” he declared.
His statement comes amid renewed concerns over unstable electricity supply, which has led to public frustration and calls for a clear solution from his administration.
Critics, particularly from the opposition, have questioned whether the current power challenges stem from mismanagement.
