President John Mahama has reiterated his commitment to a lean, efficient, and performance-driven government, emphasising fiscal discipline and responsible governance.
He assured Ghanaians that his administration is dedicated to delivering on its promise of a streamlined government that optimally utilises public resources.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of 13 deputy ministers and one minister of state, President Mahama reaffirmed his pledge to reduce the size of government from the largest in the country’s history to the smallest ever.
The President also extended this lean approach to appointments at the presidency, revealing that only 27 presidential staffers and three directors of governmental initiatives have been appointed so far, bringing the total number of political appointees to 30.
This figure, pending approval from the Council of State, stands in stark contrast to the 336 political appointees at the presidency under the previous government, he stated.
“Our commitment to a lean government is not merely about reducing the number of ministerial appointees or staff at the presidency. It is grounded in our firm belief that government must exercise fiscal discipline by ensuring that public resources are used efficiently and responsibly,” Mahama stated.
He also stressed the need for a fair balance between government expenditure and the responsibility of citizens to fund national development through tax payments.
President Mahama assured Ghanaians that public funds would be channeled into investments that directly benefit the people rather than into excessive administrative expenses. He reaffirmed that his administration’s policies are geared towards fulfilling promises made to the people of Ghana.
