The Ashanti Regional town of Obuasi broke into wild jubilation as the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) commissioned the new but upgraded Obuasi Bulk Supply Point (BSP).
The momentous occasion, filled with excitement and celebration, was to mark a significant milestone in the area’s power supply, bringing renewed hope to residents, especially businesses.
The town, until the commissioning, had been plunged into darkness 2 days before the installation was completed.

The upgraded indoor station now boasts two 20 MVA transformers. They have come to replace the previous single 10 MVA transformer, significantly improving capacity and reliability.
This transformation is further enhanced by the installation of state-of-the-art 11 kV and 33 kV switching panels, ensuring efficiency and stability in power distribution across Obuasi and its environs.
Ing. Frederick Kwabena Bediako, General Manager for Special Projects at the Electricity Company of Ghana, while reflecting on the long but rewarding journey on March 19, 2025, expressed immense gratitude for the project’s successful completion.
He recounted how the initiative began about five years ago under the previous Strategic Business Unit regime.

"Through hard work, resilience, and unwavering commitment, we have brought to life a vision that will benefit the entire Obuasi township and its environs. Today, we celebrate not just a technical achievement but an assurance of improved power reliability for the people."
He extended his heartfelt appreciation to the Sub-Transmission (Sub-T) team, the Head Office Projects team, and the dedicated workers from Obuasi, New Edubiase, and Lutton Engineering Services, the contractors, for their relentless efforts in ensuring the successful completion of the project.
Additionally, he acknowledged the leadership of the Ashanti South and Sub-T General Managers, Ing. Daniel Mensah Asare and Ing. Peter Kofi Fletcher, whose strategic guidance was instrumental in achieving this milestone.

According to Ing Bediako, the commissioning of the Obuasi BSP is more than just an infrastructure upgrade—it is a promise of a stable, efficient, and uninterrupted power supply, fostering economic growth and improving the quality of life for thousands.
Businesses can now operate with confidence, households can enjoy improved electricity services, and the town can take confident strides toward a more electrified and prosperous future.
