Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the recent killings of mobile money (MoMo) vendors in the Ashanti region.
According to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, one suspect was arrested in Bawku, and two others in Accra.
He commended the National Security and the Ghana Police for the arrests but gave no further details.
Three mobile money vendors have died in separate incidents in Kumasi in the last two months, causing fear and panic in parts of the Ashanti Region.
These robberies and killings prompted the Ashanti Regional Security Council to institute measures, including beefing up police visibility and providing safety training for MoMo vendors.
The RECSEC has also embarked on a crackdown on unlicensed motorbikes in the region.
In two of the three recent killings of MoMo vendors, firearms were used.
Dr Frank Amoakohene has stated that dealing with illicit arms and ammunition will help in fighting the crime.
