President John Dramani Mahama has issued a strong warning to Muslim youth against reckless driving and motorcycle riding during the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations.
Speaking at an event organised by the National Chief Imam at the Black Star Square in Accra, he emphasised that such behaviour often results in unnecessary loss of lives.
The President noted that while Eid-ul-Fitr is a time of unity and joy, it should not be overshadowed by careless actions that endanger lives.
"Ramadan is a period of togetherness, not recklessness," he stated, urging young people to celebrate responsibly and avoid putting themselves and others at risk.
To curb the menace, President Mahama announced that he had directed the police to be vigilant and take action against offenders.
"In past times, we have seen the needless loss of lives as a result of reckless riding of motorbikes and driving, which is mostly associated with the Ramadan celebration. I urge our brothers who engage in this to stop," he cautioned.
Reaffirming his stance, he added, "I have asked the police to deal with you if you flout this, and you will be arrested."
The President’s warning reminds all celebrants to prioritise safety while marking the end of Ramadan.
