Communications Minister Samuel Nartey George has warned the public against falling for fraudulent job advertisements on social media claiming to be from Members of Parliament or government ministers.
He made the cautionary statement during an appearance on JoyNews’ PM Express on Tuesday, 15th April.
“Let me be very clear—no legitimate MP or government minister is advertising jobs on Facebook or WhatsApp. The job I have got to do in Ningo-Prampram, I am not done and not to talk of that of the Ministry, then go offering jobs on social media...you should pay a certain amount to any protocol officer,” he said.
“These are scams designed to exploit the desperation of innocent citizens.”
According to Mr George, the rise in fake job offers under the guise of high-profile government officials has become a growing concern for national security and public trust.
“We’ve seen impersonators use our images and names to deceive the public, and we’re working with law enforcement and the cybercrime unit to track and prosecute them,” he stated.
He urged Ghanaians to always verify the authenticity of such offers through official government channels and warned scammers that the state is actively closing in on them.
“Anyone caught impersonating an official for fraudulent purposes will face the full rigour of the law.”
