Presidential Aide and Senior Presidential Advisor to former President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, has emphasised the need to revitalise the agricultural sector by making it more appealing and engaging for young people.
Speaking during an interview with Woezor TV on Sunday, 20 April, she highlighted the importance of youth involvement in agriculture as a means of securing sustainable livelihoods and national development.
According to Madam Bawah Mogtari, the transformation of agriculture into a more attractive sector is crucial to changing perceptions among the youth.
“All we want to do is to make agriculture sexier and more engaging for the youth to be able to build something for themselves,” she said.
She noted that the current government’s approach under John Mahama would place special focus on empowering young people to take advantage of opportunities within the agricultural value chain.
She explained that agriculture holds vast potential for job creation and wealth generation, especially if it is modernised and supported with the right policies.
“We believe the youth must see agriculture not as a last resort, but as a smart, innovative, and rewarding career path,” she added.
This, she argued, requires not only investment in tools and training but also a shift in mindset and national priorities.
Joyce Bawah Mogtari further indicated that under a future Mahama administration, there would be greater emphasis on youth-led agribusiness initiatives, access to credit, and improved market access.
She concluded by urging young people to embrace the new vision for agriculture and assured them of the former president’s commitment to driving policies that will place youth at the centre of Ghana’s development.
