Communications Officer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Chief Executive Officer of GoldBoard, Sammy Gyamfi, has disclosed that 30 out of 31 members of the Council of State were in agreement that a prima facie case has been established against the Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
Mr Gyamfi made the revelation on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Thursday, following the suspension of the Chief Justice following petitions for her removal from office for alleged misconduct.
"From my sources, 30 out of the 31 said that there is a prima facie case to be determined and that the nature of the allegations made against the Chief Justice justify her suspension pending the outcome of the investigation," he said.
Mr. Gyamfi added that "Nobody can tell me that all the 30 members of the Council of State are NDC members who hate the Chief Justice."
According to Mr Gyamfi, the overwhelming consensus among Council of State members underscores the seriousness of the allegations and justifies the preliminary steps taken toward a formal investigation.
While details of the specific allegations remain undisclosed, the case has drawn significant public interest, with many calling for transparency and adherence to constitutional procedures in handling the matter.
The presidency has yet to issue an official statement on the matter, and the Chief Justice has not responded publicly to the allegations.
This development marks a significant moment in Ghana’s judicial history, as many raise questions about checks and balances, judicial independence, and the mechanisms for addressing alleged misconduct at the highest levels of the judiciary.
