President John Mahama has officially nominated Dr. Paa Kwesi Badoo for appointment as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, with effect from April 30, 2025.
The nomination was announced in a formal communication from the presidency on April 30, which also included Dr. Badoo’s curriculum vitae.
Authorities have been directed to initiate the necessary processes to regularise the appointment in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Ghana Health Service and Teaching Hospitals Act, 1996 (Act 525), as amended.

Dr Badoo, a seasoned medical doctor and administrator, is expected to bring his extensive experience in health sector management to bear on one of Ghana’s premier referral and teaching hospitals.
The president has extended his best wishes to Dr. Badoo as he assumes his new role.
The Chief Executive Officer of the teaching hospital (KATH), Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah, was relieved of his duties on May 2, 2025, after a meeting with the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.
The minister thanked him for his service and dedication to improving the hospital.
Prof Addai-Mensah, who assumed the role in 2022, led several major initiatives.
One of the most notable was the “Heal Komfo Anokye Project,” aimed at modernizing the hospital. Under his leadership, the number of dialysis machines increased from two to more than twenty, and a new pharmaceutical block was constructed.
