The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has expressed cautious optimism over the relative calm currently prevailing in Bawku, attributing the development to recent mediation efforts aimed at resolving the longstanding conflict in the area.
As leader of the mediation process between the feuding Kusasi and Mamprusi factions, Otumfuo chaired a series of meetings with representatives from both sides between 28 and 30 April, before temporarily pausing the talks.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to restore peace in a region plagued by years of unrest and ethnic tensions.
Speaking at the Manhyia Palace during a courtesy call by the Inspector-General of Police, Dr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, on Monday, the Asantehene reiterated his commitment to the peace process.
“We are still on the matter, and we will meet again to address the issues. We are not done yet. But the little we have done has brought some calm to the area. We will brief you and the Ghanaians soon,” he assured.
The Asantehene’s involvement in the peace negotiations has been widely welcomed, with many seeing it as a symbol of national unity and dialogue.
