An Intel from a student of Osei Kyerekyie Senior High School led to the retrieval of a locally-manufactured pistol allegedly hidden in class by a second-year student of the school.
Headmaster of OKESS, Michael Mensah, says the search for the weapon was successful because of a directive by the Ministry of Education, empowering school authorities to conduct searches on students.
He says that upon a tip-off, he mobilised his staff to conduct a search and later found the pistol under the desk of the boy in class.

Speaking to Adom News, the headmaster said the school has been encouraging students to speak out on suspicious acts, since a student of Adventist Senior High School shot a colleague in the eye.
"Aside from that, I have established an informant group who reports to me and the management any bad thing going on in the school for immediate intervention," he revealed.

Mr. Mensah said some of the informants hinted that the student was in possession of a gun.
"When I got the information, I kept quiet and took his details, which I informed the assistant headmaster of domestic to take action against. We traced to see his desk and found out the gun was under it,” he explained.
The school handed the boy over to the police for investigation.
The headmaster says that when the police are done with their investigation, the boy will face the school’s disciplinary committee.
"I will use this opportunity to urge the parents whose students are in Okess to remain calm, their children are in high protection,” said Mr. Mensah.
