Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew is optimistic about Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup but insists the team must stay focused to finish the job.
Ghana currently sits at the top of Group I with 15 points, following hard-fought victories over Chad and Madagascar in March. Reflecting on the team’s recent performance, Ayew noted that
“I think we have a very good chance of making it to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The team fought hard for the points against Chad and Madagascar in March and that has put us in a very good place on top of the table,” he told the GFA.
Despite the positive momentum, the Leicester City forward emphasized that qualification is not yet secured.
“But it is not yet over. We have four more matches to play, and we are focused on winning them. We have Chad and Mali in September; it won’t be easy, same as Central African Republic and Comoros. But with this kind of mentality and team spirit, we will succeed.”
Ayew also expressed gratitude to the fans for their strong support during the last international window.
“We are feeling good; it’s good they came here in their numbers to support us. We enjoyed it and we can’t thank them enough.”
The Black Stars resume their World Cup qualifying campaign in September with key fixtures against Chad and Mali, as they look to maintain their lead and book a place at football’s biggest stage.
