A Gender-Based Violence Court in Accra has sentenced a 31-year-old trader to 12 years imprisonment for defiling a seven-year-old girl at her school in Kaneshie.
Oluwa Damilare was convicted on the charge of defilement of a child under 16 years.
Chief Inspector Opoku Aniagyei, who led the prosecution, said the complainant, a Statistician and father of the victim, reported the incident after a fellow parent informed him on May 12, 2024, that Mr Damilare had had sex with his daughter on school premises.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on May 8, 2024, while the victim was packing her books.
Damilare, who regularly sold phone accessories to teachers after school hours, allegedly carried the girl, removed her pants, and had sex with her.
The girl later recounted the ordeal to her father, who filed a complaint at the Kaneshie Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU).
She was issued a medical form, and examination confirmed she had been defiled.
Damilare, a Nigerian trader residing at Asofan, was arrested and provided a caution statement during investigations.
