President John Dramani Mahama on Monday, June 30, welcomed Peter Cardinal Appiah Turkson back to Ghana and expressed gratitude to the esteemed clergyman for accepting his invitation to deliver a sermon at the inaugural National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving Service.
The event, which will be marked annually on 1st July, is a new national initiative championed by President Mahama.
It aims to foster unity and gratitude by bringing Ghanaians together in worship and reflection.

The maiden edition of the observance will see the Christian community hold the first nationwide prayer and thanksgiving service, followed by a second service led by the Muslim community.

President Mahama noted that the Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving is intended to become a sacred moment on the national calendar, a day set aside to collectively thank God for His continued blessings and protection over the country.

Peter Cardinal Appiah Turkson is a prominent Ghanaian prelate of the Catholic Church and one of the most respected voices in global religious and humanitarian affairs.
Cardinal Turkson made history as the first Ghanaian Cardinal, recently participating in the papal conclave of the Catholic Church, underscoring his stature within the global ecclesiastical community.
