The Africa Development Council (ADC) has urged Ghana’s President, John Mahama, to urgently lead diplomatic mediation aimed at restoring peace in Togo, warning that delay could result in further bloodshed.
In a statement released today, the ADC appealed to President Mahama, stressing that, “as a matter of urgency, [he must] diplomatically mediate for peace restoration in that country as soon as possible to prevent further bloodshed.”
The council acknowledged President Mahama’s discreet efforts behind the scenes, saying, “We know that he has been trying behind closed doors to quench the fire in Togo.”
The call comes amid perceived inaction by major international organisations.
The ADC noted, “World bodies, such as the UN, AU & ECOWAS, responsible for the restoration of peace, have failed to act.”
Expressing strong confidence in Ghana’s leadership, the council said, “Ghana, the new hope of Africa, under the leadership of the current President, with the aura around his leadership style, President Mahama, can do the magic in restoring peace in Togo.”
The ADC underscored the urgency of restoring stability, stating, “It is time the world restored peace in Togo.”
Beyond diplomacy, the Africa Development Council pledged technical support for Togo’s recovery, committing that, “The Africa Development Council is ready to provide engineering expertise in rebuilding Togo’s industrial infrastructure, as well as the industrial value addition chain of Togo’s natural resources.”
