Award-winning Ghanaian musician Kuami Eugene, born Eugene Kwame Marfo, has recounted how his first relationship ended.
Before he rose to fame, he dated a lady who later broke up with him because he could not cater to some of her needs.
According to him, she left him for a guy who owned a Corolla, which hurt him, but he couldn’t do anything at the time because he was not financially stable.
The musician shared this in an interview with Roselyn Felli on Joy Prime’s Changes show.
“Back in Fadama, I had this girl who we used to vibe and she used to be in Darkoman. After SHS, everything started changing because we both completed school and I was trying to find myself."
"So she also decided to find herself as well and I respected her opinion, but who she moved to pained me because the guy had a Corolla while I was still staying with my mum. I met her one time whilst I was walking to Darkoman and I saw her in the car; she rolled down when she saw me but couldn’t look at me because she felt guilty,” he narrated.
That motivated him to work harder in order to earn a living and prove to the lady that he could own such a vehicle. When he eventually became successful and bought his first vehicle, he drove to the lady’s place to tease her.
"I went home to show it to my mum and she was excited but I told them to wait I was going somewhere to come. Her mum has a salon at Darkoman, so she’s normally there. I drove straight there just to play a bell,” Kuami Eugene jokingly said.
Although they’ve both moved on, he remains concerned about couples who break up because of temporary struggles. In his latest song 'Do Better,' he conveys the message that anyone can grow and improve.
