After six intense days in the Ashanti Region, the curtains have drawn on the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) regional qualifiers, with Armed Forces Senior High Technical School and Kumasi Wesley Girls’ High School claiming the final two tickets to the Zonal and National Championships.
In the last regional contest, Armed Forces SHTS delivered an impressive 61-point performance to top the contest, while Kumasi Wesley Girls’ trailed with a solid 42 points—both far ahead of Konadu Yiadom Catholic SHS and Aduman SHS, who scored 16 and 13 points respectively.
This wraps up a competitive regional campaign where 88 schools locked horns in 22 separate contests, with 27 eventually securing qualification to join four seeded schools and a private school: Prempeh College, Opoku Ware School, Osei Tutu SHS, and St. Hubert Seminary SHS. In all, 31 schools from the Ashanti Region will represent at the national level this year.

Among the standout stories this year:
• Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ SHS made a triumphant return to the nationals after missing out in 2024.
• Amaniapong SHS posted the highest score of the Ashanti qualifiers with a staggering 82 points, the top score across all contests so far.
• Kofi Agyei SHTS made headlines for qualifying with an all-Form Two team, following the axing of three senior contestants over teamwork issues.
• Defending Ashanti Zonal champions, Kumasi High School, also booked their place in the next stage.
The qualifiers coming to an end pathway for the Zonal Championship, which begins on Monday and ends on Wednesday at Opoku Ware School. Eight hotly anticipated contests will determine which schools move on with momentum to the national stage.

Contest 3: Prempeh College, Presbyterian SHS Bompata, Afua Kobi Ampem SHS, T.I. AMASS Kumasi
Contest 4: KSTS, Ejisuman SHS, Simms SHS, Effiduase SHS
Contest 5: Osei Tutu SHS, Konongo Odumase SHS, Adventist SHS Kumasi, Kumasi Wesley Girls’
Contest 6: Opoku Ware School, St. Joseph Seminary SHS, Kofi Agyei SHTS, Serwaa Nyarko Girls’
Contest 7: St. Hubert Seminary SHS, Kumasi High School, KNUST SHS, Nsutaman SHS
Contest 8: Amaniapong SHS, St. Louis SHS, Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ SHS, Our Lady of Grace SHS
The first four contests will be held on Monday, with the remaining four scheduled for Tuesday. The final to determine the Ashanti Regional zonal champions is slated for Wednesday.
