Kwasi Kwarteng, Esq., spokesperson for New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong, has asserted that his candidate remains the most relatable and widely accepted among the party’s aspirants and the general Ghanaian populace.
Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on Wednesday, 30 July, Mr Kwarteng argued that Mr Agyapong commands unmatched support from ordinary Ghanaians, describing him as the "people’s candidate."
“If it has to do with 2028, I am of the view that Kennedy Agyapong has more and stronger appeal to ordinary Ghanaians. Just take your cameras out, enter churches, enter mosques, enter the markets, enter schools, and you will realise there is one language spoken by Ghanaians, saying ‘if you bring Ken Agyapong, we will vote for him,’” he claimed.
According to Mr Kwarteng, the former Assin Central MP is well known for his strong connection with the grassroots, which he believes sets him apart from other contenders.
Meanwhile, the NPP has formally opened nominations for the party’s upcoming presidential primaries, as preparations advance towards the 2028 general elections.
Announcing the development, the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, revealed that the National Executive Committee and National Council had approved comprehensive guidelines for the primaries at a joint meeting held on Friday, 25 July.
Per the approved schedule, the presidential primaries will be held simultaneously in all 276 constituencies on Saturday, 31 January 2026.
The guidelines are expected to provide clarity and ensure a transparent and peaceful process as the party seeks to elect a flagbearer to lead its charge into the 2028 polls.
