Ghana has launched a landmark football transformation project aimed at rebranding and commercialising the Ghana Premier League (GPL) as a world-class media and commercial asset.
The initiative, a collaboration between the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Adesa Productions Limited (APL), and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, is set to reposition football as a strategic national asset and catalyst for economic development.

Speaking at the launch, GFA President Kurt Okraku announced that every Ghana Premier League club will receive GHS 1 million to support operational improvements and competitive growth.
“This is about transforming our football landscape, not just for players and clubs, but for fans and future investors,” he said.

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, representing President John Mahama, revealed that the initiative stems from a Cabinet directive to elevate sports as a key driver of national development.
He emphasised the government's commitment to long-term sporting infrastructure and policy transformation.

Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, praised the project as a shift in Ghana’s sports governance model.
“We are moving from government dependency to structured private-sector partnerships.”
APL General Manager Afeafa Nfojoh outlined the media vision behind the project, promising fans premium storytelling, dynamic match coverage, pre-game build-ups, fan interaction, and high-quality highlight packaging.

The initiative also earned the backing of Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga, who pledged full legislative support to ensure the success and sustainability of the new model.

The GFA is encouraging fans, investors, and stakeholders to follow the transformation journey online at www.ghanafa.org and across social media using the hashtags #GPLReimagined, #AdesaProductions, and #GFAFootball.
