Ghana will host the third annual African Association of Accountants General (AAAG) conference in Accra this November to promote public finance reforms.
The event is expected to attract over 2,000 delegates, including finance professionals, policymakers, experts and development partners, to discuss reforms in Public Finance Management (PFM) aimed at advancing sustainable development across Africa.
Addressing the press on Monday during the AAAG Governance meeting, Mr. Kwasi Agyei, Ghana’s Controller and Accountant-General, said the country was proud to host the event and noted the conference would provide an opportunity for Ghana to benchmark its systems with other African countries.
He said the event, scheduled from November 24 to 28, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre, aligned with the theme “Africa of Tomorrow: Positioning PFM for Economic Prosperity.”
“Ghana is leading the way in PFM reforms and digital transformation, and we look forward to sharing our experiences,” Mr. Agyei added.
Malehlohonolo Mahase, AAAG Chairperson and Accountant-General for Lesotho, said the conference would centre on ethics, technology-driven service delivery, strong financial governance and streamlined public processes.
“By rethinking how we manage public resources, we can build an Africa that is prosperous, inclusive and ready for future and current challenges,” she stated.
Frederick Raiga, AAAG Chief Executive Officer, emphasised the critical role of accountants general in executing public programmes and stressed the importance of capacity building and collaboration.
“It is often said that the public decisions, public interventions and public programmes are quantified in monetary terms, and the host of that function is the Accountant General,” he said.
The AAAG, a pan-African organisation under the African Union, works to promote transformation, transparency and accountability in the management of public resources.
