The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has expressed profound sorrow over the fatal military helicopter crash that claimed eight lives in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday.
The Commission described it as a monumental loss to the Republic.
In a statement signed by Chairperson Kathleen Addy, the Commission said it is “deeply shaken” by the tragedy and offered its “heartfelt condolences to the entire nation,” particularly the President and government, as well as the bereaved families who are now grappling with immense grief.
“This tragic incident has plunged the nation into mourning,” the Commission said.
“We stand in solidarity with all who are affected by the devastating loss of our patriots.”
Among those who perished was Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology and a longstanding friend of the Commission.
The NCCE highlighted his roots within the civic education movement, recalling his early days as a volunteer with the Northern Regional Office and later as President of the University of Ghana Chapter of the NCCE’s Civic Education Club.
“He played an impactful role during his student days and remained committed to civic responsibility throughout his public life,” the Commission noted.
The NCCE urged Ghanaians to remain united in the face of this national tragedy and allow the sacrifice of these “gallant men” to inspire a renewed sense of patriotism and collective duty.
“We pray for the souls of our patriots to rest in eternal peace,” the statement added, “and may their devotion to Ghana serve as a beacon for generations to come.”
“God bless our homeland, Ghana, and make our nation great and strong.”
