Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, has called for urgent and sustained resourcing of the Ghana Armed Forces and other security agencies to respond to emerging national security threats effectively.
Speaking on Metro TV on Monday, he cautioned that terrorism, cybercrime, cross-border criminal activity, and the increasing menace of illegal mining required robust defence institutions to safeguard the nation.
“This is not a matter for partisan politics; it is a matter of survival for our country,” Rev Fordjour stressed.
“In the face of rising terrorism threats, cybercrime, the galamsey menace, and cross-border criminal activities, strengthening Ghana’s defence institutions must be treated as a top national security priority.”
He urged government to make consistent investments in the Armed Forces, the Police Service, the Immigration Service, and allied agencies, insisting that national security should never be undermined by political calculations.
“We must commit to a sustained programme of investment that guarantees the safety of citizens, protects Ghana’s territorial integrity, and preserves the peace and stability on which development depends,” he said.
Rev Fordjour further reaffirmed his support for any initiatives that enhance the capacity of Ghana’s security agencies.
“On this matter, I will lend my voice and support to every policy or action that equips our men and women in uniform to deliver. Their readiness and strength are directly tied to the peace and prosperity of Ghana,” he concluded.
