Kwasi Kwarteng, spokesperson for Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team, has defended the NPP flagbearer hopeful against criticisms of his temperament, arguing that his perceived shortcomings can be turned into assets for national progress.
Speaking to JoyNews after Mr Agyapong filed his nomination on Wednesday, August 27, Mr Kwarteng admitted that, like everyone, Mr Agyapong has strengths and weaknesses.
“Our candidate, Kennedy Agyapong, is a human being. He has his strengths and he has his shortcomings,” he stated.
He emphasised, however, that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Ghanaians should focus on how Mr Agyapong’s passion and straightforwardness can be channelled into meaningful development.
“Even in his shortcomings, we can capitalise on them to develop this country,” he said.
Mr Kwarteng dismissed perceptions that Mr Agyapong is overly radical or prone to controversial remarks, insisting:
“People see him as having a temperament, but we see him as someone who is passionate about getting things done.”
He cautioned that a “character audit” of the candidate would not serve the party’s interests, urging that the focus remain on vision, competence, and the ability to deliver economic transformation, particularly in job creation.
“If indeed certain utterances of his have caused problems, we will not shy away from taking responsibility and apologising,” he concluded.
