The Anti-Galamsey task force based in Manso-Adubia in the Ashanti Region has seized another excavator during an operation on Tuesday, bringing to three the number seized within a week.
The task force, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Bawah Abdul Jalil, on August 22, 2025, seized two excavators at Dwendwenase following intelligence gathered that some Chinese nationals were engaged in illegal mining in the forest reserve.
On August 26, the same task force with 45 police personnel in an ongoing operation seized the third excavator in an operation at Adobewura, a suburb of Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua District.
The illegal miners had vacated the site when the task force arrived. However, it was discovered that an excavator was working at the site.
The equipment was impounded and loaded onto a low-bed carrier, and transported to a base at Manso Adubia for safekeeping and further investigations.
The task force observed that Tuesday was regarded as a resting day for illegal miners operating within Manso-Adubia and its surrounding areas, a police statement copied to the Ghana News Agency said on Thursday.
"Taking advantage of this pattern, the task force strategically selected this day to conduct operations in areas alleged to be heavily involved in illegal mining," the statement said.
